Product Description
Duo for One is a solo piece for the flute. It combines extended techniques with the human voice creating a duet between the musician and her/his instrument, hence the title. Some techniques included in the work, are flutter tongue, white noise, glissando, intense vibrato and jet whistle. The form is A, B, C, A where the parts A and C are based on the sound coming only from the flute, B is based on the human voice coming from the body of the instrument and the last part A combines the voice with the sound of the flute. The whole piece is mainly based on 4 notes (F, F sharp, E flat, G sharp) and the work lasts 2 minutes and 52 seconds. The specific work for the flute is written for soprano, alto or contra tenor.
The inspiration for this piece came from a business travel in a music University in Austria where I saw a woman flutist spending hours on end in a small room studying the flute with no complaint, but speaking with much love for her instrument. Thus, Duo for One was composed: a duet between the musician and her instrument, her true friend.
