Dixieland - Intermediate Ron Calabrese
Wind It Up (written and arranged by Ron Calabrese). Score, Six Parts including Bb Clarinet, Bb Trumpet, Trombone 1, Trombone 2, Banjo/Guitar, Tuba: 24 pages.
Introduction: Wind It Up is a fun piece that can round out any performance. It has numerous twists and turns making it pleasant to listen to and exciting to play.
Part Descriptions:
Bb Clarinet: The Clarinet part (for the most part) harmonizes with the Bb Trumpet to form the primary "hook" of the song. It features a written-out solo that can optionally be improvised. Note that the Clarinet part employs multiple trills during the more intense passages.
Bb Trumpet: The Bb Trumpet part provides the lead melody for the tune. It features a written-out solo that can optionally be improvised.
Trombone 1/Trombone 2: These parts provide an alternate melody and harmonize with each other.
Banjo/Guitar: This part could be played by a Banjo and/or a Guitar player and provides essential rhythms to the song performance.
Tuba: The Tuba part is a very special part and features numerous short solos that add humor and texture to the song.
The "Wind It Up" Story: I wrote Wind It Up as a fun piece to break up the gig. It started as a simple melody and grew into a complex Dixieland-style chart. You will notice that I had written into the song many "soli-like" passages featuring every one of the instruments. I am so excited to share the song with you and your group. Ron
