Cascading runs in the right hand, and sometimes both hands, accompany the outer two presentations of Gibbonss haunting tune, often used for the communion text, "Completed, Lord, the Holy Mysteries." The middle section shifts the tune to right hand chords (with brief echoes of the Dies irae interpolated), while the left continues the energy driving the piece forward. The cascades die away in the coda. One of three communion tune settings, see Meditations on "Adoro devote" and on "St. Keverne."
