The old French chant tune, "Adoro devote," often set to the communion text "Humbly I adore thee," is presented three times in this piano setting, moving freely among the voices. Each section is introduced by an open-fifths motif, which also ends the piece. At a mostly subdued dynamic level, it is appropriate for communion, prelude, or other reflective juncture in a worship service.
