Product Description

Johann Sebastian Bach was a master composer of counterpoint and Fugue for the Organ. His compositions contained weaving melodic lines that mesmerize a listener without sacrificing the clarity of the Fugue's motif, but unfortunately J. S. Bach died over 200 years before a new invention revolutionized musical timbre.

The Saxophone was a mix of woodwind with a reeded mouthpiece, a brass instrument with its metallic body, and strings with its lyrical capabilities. The brass and wood organs of Bach's age could now be re-imagined with a new instrument and his works put into a modern sound.

Like many of Bach's works, it is most recommended for an emerging collegiate group or an advanced high school showcase. While it would certainly show one's intuition of style to perform the work in the Baroque style, the modernness of the Saxophone allows the performers to take freedoms of interpretation not available two centuries ago. As the Organ does not have the capability for accents, dynamics, or slurs, the performers may wish to add their own flavor to the music as well as their own extra embellishments.

If you are interested in Modernized Saxophone works, be on the look out for my arrangements of Bach's choral works, the Art of Fugue, The Well Tempered Clavier, and some other works from other eras of music such as Thomas Tallis' Spem in Alium for Sax Choir or Tchaikovsky's Marche Slav for Saxophone Quartet.
