Product Description

Beethoven's Septet op. 20 turned into a Symphony (four of its movements fully orchestrated and adapted). Given his exasperation for the success of his Septet and of other rather youthful works in contrast to his later ones, he may have not been too happy about this arrangement (although he has adapted himself the Septet as Piano Trio Op. 38).

This arrangement presents a "new" Classical symphony by orchestrating the large chamber ensemble of the original Septet and adapting four of its suitable movements. It may be interesting also for students and community orchestras willing to explore the Classical style and orchestration. The orchestra required is rather more on the chamber side and follows the Classical performing practice: fewer strings, contrabassoon to support the double basses, ideally natural horns and trumpets, and timpani with hard sticks.

Total duration: 29 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 recording is the third movement (Scherzo).
