Product Description

"The Sound of Silence" was written by Paul Simon in the early 1960s and has become a classic folk rock piece. It was even recognized by the Library of Congress on their National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important" in 2012.

This particular arrangement is for intermediate clarinet quartet and makes good use of the middle and lower ranges of the instrument. The music has been split essentially into melody, harmony, guitar, and bass guitar parts and all four clarinet parts get a chance to play each voice over the course of the piece. Players will get to practice breath control on the long passages of running eighth notes and will get practice playing the syncopations of popular music's vocals on classical instruments.

This arrangement is in the key of D minor and ranges from the lowest note on the clarinet to the F right above the break. You can find other arrangements by Mark R Lewis at http://www.makingjoyfulmusic.com/storefront.html.
