This work is an orchestration for mixed small ensemble of a piano miniature, by the same composer (Mother and Child - also available via Sheet Music Plus). The piece is based on the common sculptural theme of the mother and child (and more specifically a wood carving of this image by Peter McGann). A five note ostinato in the bass represents the circling, rocking motion of a cradled child. The ostinato enables contrasting lines to emerge around this constant element. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for higher standard musicians, including students and the more advanced. This 3-page full score also serves as a full playing score for performers.
