This bassoon duet consists of three movements, each exploiting the possibilities of an interval based compositional framework - first half-tones, then whole-tones, and then minor thirds. It is scored in a minimalistic fashion, to encourage the performers to use expressive tools at their discretion. This is in contrast to the Stravinskian model in which "everything is already on the page." Here, the notation itself is square and algorithmic, but its interpretation shouldn't be.
