A choral piece suitable for youth choir that utilizes unison male and female voices together and separate with no choral counterpoint; maybe also be performed as completely unison mixed choir or male or female choir. Choral parts have restricted ranges and are diatonic. The words are based on the famous poem by George Moses Horton who was an African-American poet from North Carolina, the first to be published in the Southern United States. His book was published in 1828 while he was still enslaved. He did not gain freedom until 1865, late during the Civil War. -- Wikipedia Born: Northampton County, North Carolina, NC.
