About the piece

Mirage, for marimba and piano, plays with the idea of reflections in music. There are musical mirror images which explore gestures which ascend and descend in contrary motion, with this idea played out both horizontally and vertically. Some of the techniques employed have their origins in serialism, but are reimagined in a more tonal, more melodic sound world.

About the composer

Olivia Sparkhall studied composition at school with Derek Bourgeois and at Durham University with Paul Archbold, and has since received critical acclaim for her vocal music. She was short-listed in the Cappella Nova competition in 2018 for Dona Nobis Pacem and has received several commissions including for International Womens Day services in 2018 (Lux Aeterna) and 2019 (Faith and Hope).

Although primarily a composer of choral music, Olivia has written various pieces for cello and chamber ensemble, both for professionals and for children. These range from pieces for solo cello, cello duet, wind quintets and percussion pieces to the multi-violin arrangement, Jingle All The Way.

Olivia is published by Encore Publications, Chichester Music Press, and within the Kassian Choral Series of Banks Music Publications both as composer, and as arranger and editor of choral music by women composers from the past. She is part of the series research and editorial team for the Multitude of Voyces CIC Sacred Music by Women Composers set of anthologies, as well as contributing original compositions and arrangements to each of the three volumes.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
