In the Thicket at Daybreak is an entertaining piece about the little creatures that wake up as daylight shines over a small forest. The creatures range in size and temperament from small and feisty to large and lazy and everything in-between. The piece is intermediate difficulty and is good for ensembles at the university level and higher. There are no extended techniques. Its possible to play this piece as a string quintet instead of for orchestra but some of the divisi may take some time to sort out.
