Fibonacci was composed for my friend and colleague Huw Evans to celebrate his leaving Preston Manor School after 22 years. As the mathematicians and scientists will know the Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers in which every number after the first two is the sum of the two preceding ones. The phrase structure of the piece is loosely based on the first eight numbers in the sequence. So why maths for a musician? Well, in its own way its stylish, elegant and there's certainly a plan there!
