Tuning Tunes were commissioned by the Canadian Music Centre, BC Region, as part of the Millennium Commissions in the year 2000 to increase the number of quality Canadian compositions for young musicians. My thanks to Regional Director Colin Miles for this initiative and to the Langley Community Music School for encouraging their use.

Both pieces are designed for the development of proper left hand position for the classical guitarist. Both pieces are based on the practice of tuning the top E and B strings by fretting the next lower string. Tuning Tune 1 will challenge the beginner to intermediate student and requires the ability to read in second position. Tuning Tune 2 requires more skill of both hands, and a developing ability to read in 7th and 9th position, as well as to read chords.
