Liuyang River

The Liuyang river is a section of the Xiangjiang river in Chinas Hunan province; the original composition contains lyrics praising the beautiful scenery surrounding the river.

This arrangement begins with the songs melody played in the guitars low register with very sparse harmony, in an attempt to evoke the sound of a guqin; this section should be performed quietly but confidently and with a lot of rubato, almost as if the melody is being improvised by a guqin player. Be careful to maintain clear separation between melody and accompaniment, great importance is given to purity of melody in Chinese music so make sure that every note is given its full duration. Articulate all of the legato phrases smoothly throughout in order to create the impression of the flowing Liuyang River.
