Product Description

Mairis Wedding (or the Lewis Bridal Song) is generally regarded as a Scottish folk tune, though it is accredited to J R Bannerman in 1934, who composed the song to celebrate Mary C McNiven winning the prestigious gold medal for singing at that years National Mod competition.  The original song was in Gaelic English words were added later, though these give the song a rather different character.  In Scotland, the tune is used as a pipe band march and for Scottish country dancing.  It can frequently be heard at some stage during a wedding celebration!
