Makedonsko Devojce is a traditional folk song from Macedonia, one of the Balkan States in Eastern Europe. This folk music is known for its unusual time signatures (like the 7/8 meter in this case), creating an uneven groove which gives to the music a special and somehow "exotic" sound.
The song is arranged for trombone and piano duet, and the arranger looked to it that both instruments get interesting parts to play: at the beginning the trombone plays the melody, accompanied by a rhythmic chord pattern in the piano. But later on in the song the roles change: now the piano takes the lead while the trombone only plays a background role. Finally the piece culminates in a strong and dramatic ending, so that the musicians can be sure to get applause!
All in all, Makedonsko Devojce is an entertaining piece which is really fun to play!
