Product Description

This piece is a setting of Hannah's Prayer from the Bible, alternated with Psalm settings. This is the piano/vocal version. If you are separately ordering the complete score for chorus with wind quintet, it is not necessary to order this in addition. That package includes the piano/vocal score. The text is in Hebrew, written in English transliteration (English letters), and the translation and a pronunciation guide are included. This piece was commissioned and performed in 1992 by the Smith College Choirs, Jessel Murray, conductor. Originally performed by women's chorus, it can also be performed by a mixed group. It consists of 7 short movements. The odd numbered movements are psalms and can be performed separately. (The even numbered movements are Hannah's Prayer and only make sense as part of the whole.) The audio clip is from the beginning of the third movement (Psalm 96, v. 1-2). A complete recording is available upon request from the composer at ebrill@hcc.edu. Total duration 14 minutes. Licensed by BMI.
