Although Burns wrote the words of the song, he probably set them to a variation of an existing tune called Lady Badinscoth's Reel.Â
This lively arrangement for Wind Quintet starts off with a stately âclassicalâ arrangement of My Love Sheâs But a Lassie Yet, but as it develops the tune combines with another traditional melody, followed by some operatic quotations, and even a five part fugue. It ends with an embellished restatement of the opening. It is great fun for all players.
