116 was written for my mum and dad. At the time I was living in Virginia in the USA, and I was expecting mum and dad to come and visit for a holiday. Due to an unexpected illness they didn't make it. I wrote this tune for them on the day I found out that they wouldn't be visiting. It's called 116 because that was the number of our family home - 116 Hillside Avenue, in Southampton in the UK.

It's a jolly melody, with some classical runs, followed by a dramatic twist in the second section. The first section has a simple bass line and structure that is fun to improvise over - when I play it the 2nd and 3rd repeats are always a bit different each time.
