Product Description
"Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" - Awake, the voice is calling us" is a Lutheran hymn written by Philipp Nicolai, first published in 1599.
Here as a string quartet for the "2018 Holiday Contest Entry".
The hymn is known as the foundation of Johann Sebastian Bach`s chorale cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140, as well as being the foundation of settings by many other generations of composers.
This arrangement is based on the original facsimile from Bach.
I used the modern notation and transposed the cello part one octave down. Some interpretation notes where added to the score but only as a suggestion, the bowing is from Bach himself and it follows the original german text.
I recommend my dear colleges to apply their own interpretation and bowing technic at will.
Though deeply spiritual, the piece is very easy to play and therefor also appropriate for all beginners and amateurs.
It is without any doubt a very satisfying piece to listen when played by an experienced ensemble and it can be used in all sorts of spiritual or religious events.
It is wonderful that we all share the music, despite being born in different Times and geographic regions, language and cultural differences.
