He was the leading Italian composer and organist in Venice at its greatest heights at the chasm between the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque period in music. Presented here is a Canzona published around 1615 for a small brass ensemble of 4 trombones. A variety of optional substitute parts are also included to handle the trombone parts with French horns, trumpet and tuba. Themes played are representative of some of Gabrielis larger works. A nice sounding work for almost any combination of instruments in a small ensemble.
