I inadvertently discovered that when Charles Baudelaires "Les Fleurs du Mal" was published in 1857, portions of it were condemned and censored as "an insult to public decency." That of course aroused my curiosity. I got a dual language copy of the book and decided to set five of the condemned poems for soprano and string quartet:
