Alessandro Scarlatti's "O Cessate di Piagarmi" from his 1683 opera "Pompeo" is a favourite of singers and singing teachers, being one of the early Italian arias often used in vocal tuition. This arrangement adds a second soloist, providing a decorative balancing part to the original aria's melodic line. Scarlatti repeats his melody line in the original aria. In this arrangement it is shared between the singers - soloist 1 singing it the first time, with soloist 2 singing a second part. On the repeat the singers swap roles. In this way each singer has the main tune once during this arrangement. There are additional decorations and ornaments in the repeated version.

Creating a duet from a solo aria gives singers the chance to participate in some vocal chamber music and add another dimension to their performance skills.
