'Men of Sherwood Forest' is a 1954 British historical adventure film directed by Val Guest, following the exploits of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. It was written by Allan MacKinnon with a score by Doreen Carwithen. It was produced by Hammer Films as their first colour feature, and based on its success, was followed up with two other Robin Hood films later on. This wonderful, swashbuckling overture (featuring some lovely moments for Harp) has been performed at the famous Proms concerts in 2021 and 2024 and is now available to concert bands - perfect to include in a concert of film music, particularly if keen to highlight the work of women composers in the genre. This arrangement has been created as part of an ongoing project to bring more music by women into the worldwide repertoire. #ArrangeMeGoals2023
