Product Description

This arrangement is made for Windband/school band with beginners.

Viva La Vida has turned out to be a song that doesn't get outdated. It's simply a catchy masterpiece by Coldplay. And I have come to discover that it is equally catchy when played by school bands. It is also an easy and recognisable piece for beginners.

I believe beginners can be motivated by playing with older, more experienced musicians. I believe it can lead to development. Additionally, I believe beginners as well as older musicians will find Viva La Vida as a fun piece to play. I have also worked with beginners before, and I am often disapointed with some of the music that is out there for beginners. Often quite boring and sometimes unrecognisable. This arrangement of Viva La Vida is my attempt at giving beginners recognisable and fun music to learn to play with.

In my version I have chosen to transpose the piece to Bb major, for simplisity for beginners, to ensure that they can play this piece early on in their musical journey.

Notes for conductors:

  • This arrangement has been made with the intention of the beginners learning their part without sheet music. The "Beginner in Eb" part is written as a two-part harmony. This is to make sure it's in a comfortable range for beginners on all Eb instruments (tenor horns not having to start on G for instance). The "Beginner in C (B.C.)" part is also written as a two-part harmony. This so that trombone or euphonium players can start building a lower range.
  • 8va in 1st trumpet on D is optional
  • On K my intention is for the outro to be played by flute, clarinets and bass clarinet. Should this not work for your band, it can be played by saxophones (Play if instructed to). Feel free to explore a compination of all these instruments if you wish to do so.
