Gerwig had been a fan of Desplat's score for the film 'Birth' and aspired to work with him, while he "loved" her film 'Lady Bird'. Among its numerous awards and wins, the score was nominated for Academy Award, Golden Globe Award and BAFTA Award for Best Original Score.
