Product Description

Franz Xaver Mozart premiered these "Variations on a Theme of the First Finale of Don Giovanni on his first public performance in 1805.

His mother Constanze, who steered her youngest sons training, hoped that his talents would be recognized with that of his father, Wolfgang.

The theme is a Menuetto from the first finale of Act I of Don Giovanni. The theme is simple but are followed be seven variations of impressive technical virtuosity. Originally for piano, this arrangement for string quartet features each in instrument in their own variation: Var. 1- violin 1, Var. 2- cello, Var. 3- violin 2, Var. 4- shared, Var 5- viola, Var. 6- Minor key, Var. 7- shared among the quartet.

This sample plays the first part of each variation, and the finale of Var. 7.

The running time with repeats is about 10 minutes.
