Original work for Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
---------------
Based on the Guaraní legend of the Iguazú Falls.
Naipí, a Guaraní Chiefs daughter, and Tarobá, a young warrior, meet and fall in love. Mboi, a serpent deity living in the river, sees them together, and in a fit of jealousy, demands that Naipí be sacrificed to him instead. The Chief agrees.
Rather than enduring a life apart, Naipí and Tarobá meet one last time and decide to flee together in a canoe.
Mboi, enraged by this betrayal, chases them along the river, finally slamming into the earth, creating the immense Iguazú falls.
As punishment, Naipí is turned into a tree on one side of the falls, and Tarobá is turned into a rock on the other, so that they may see each other for eternity but never be together.
