Technical challenges include: fast string crossings, the introduction of tenor and treble clefs, thumb position, big chords and asymmetrical rhythms. There are three jazzy pieces to develop a feel of swung eighth notes, along with racy pieces like 'Salamanca' and 'Rondo alla Tarantella', 'Twilight Tango', and, the composer's personal favourite:'Variations'. Each piece has preparation exercises by Wendy Velasco explaining how to approach the technical and musical challenges.
