About the work:

The melody for this work was originally composed in 1797 by the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn to commemorate the birthday of Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

In 1841, the German poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben adopted the music for his new text, Das Lied der Deutschen (Song of the Germans).

It was then only in 1922 that the song became Germanys official national anthem. In recent years, it has become customary to only sing the third stanza.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
