A copy cat imitates and mimics another and a cha-cha is a Latin American dance. Put them together and you have a vibrant piece where the instruments in the band do just that in a South American style! After a short intro, the trumpets begin with a catchy melody, then the clarinets jump in to repeat it.
Next, the trumpets reprise what the clarinets and flutes just played! Then the flutes get their chance to play the melody, the saxes their opportunity, and everybody gets into the act, all the way down to the deep, low brass. When the piece concludes and the applause dies down, the audience will be humming and whistling this melody all the way to the parking lot! And this piece will undoubtedly be a favorite of your students as well.
All parts are written within the range of young elementary grade musicians, To produce a full sound, many instruments double other instruments, i.e. Eb sax and French horn, low brass and tenor sax and flute and oboe.
