The first of these Two Pastoral Intermezzi portrays a rural scene through much use of parallel secondary seventh chords. Its tone is nostalgic within a simple idiom of clear homophonic textures. The second piece references the parallel chord theme again, as a cyclic secondary idea. It conveys a popular (if not romantic) 'cafe classics' style with liberal use of appoggiaturas, descending sequences, arpeggio accompaniments and a cantabile melody. The pieces are highly accessible and are suitable for most standards of pianist. Both movements within the set are also available to purchase individually, via Sheet Music Plus.
