old ottoman song. The songs name comes from the name of a large and populated
neighborhood in Istanbul, Turkey - Üsküdar. The full text-title "Üsküdar a
Gider Iken" translates as "While I was going to Üsküdar", and the lyrics of the
song describe the journey of a woman with her scribe in Üsküdar.
The arrangement for the guitar is in "A minor", time signature of "Alla
breve" 2/2, with the tempo indication of "Andante sostenuto". The level of the
piece is for beginner, though its beauty makes it being perceived with great
interest by all listeners. Performing the piece, one will consider, on one
hand, the unity of the tempo and the rhythmic strictness and, on the other
hand, the dynamic levels of playing in "mezzoforte" and "forte" as well as the
dynamic accents, where necessary, to highlight the fighting spirit of a great
empire that was the Ottoman Empire.
