Product Description

Written as part of a cycle of pieces celebrating Japanese mythology, this solo for unaccompanied bass clarinet depicts the god of thunder, Raijin. Typically rendered as a demon-looking spirit, Raijin was created by the divine pair Izanami and Izanagi after the creation of Japan. On the darker side of the pantheon, Raijin is often in the company of the demon Raiju and is known to have frequent battles with Fujin, the wind god.

The music illustrates Raijin in one of his stormy, quarrelsome moods, populated with very fast, blustery gestures and frequently punctuated by violent outbursts.

Advanced level, suitable for any occasion. Unaccompanied bass clarinet.
